AI in German: challenges and innovations

4 Min.

We live in an exciting world where technology is shaping the way we communicate and AI-powered language models are playing an increasingly important role. According to a survey from 2023, 74% of German companies say they see potential in speech recognition technologies, while 70% rate the generative potential of AI for text, images or music as high. We at 2be are also actively using AI language models because we are convinced that they optimize our work processes and enable innovative solutions.

The challenges of international AI models for the German market

Whether ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini – models of this type differ, but have one crucial thing in common: they are mainly based on English-language data. This raises an important question, especially for us in Germany: Is this a problem? Under certain circumstances, this can lead to difficulties.

  • When texts are generated by AI models that are not specially trained for German, there is a risk that the texts will sound generic and average rather than nuanced and idiomatic.
  • Another aspect that should be taken into account is the different quality of the answers. The English answers are often more detailed and precise, while the German answers sometimes remain more vague or omit important details.
  • Especially in specialist contexts or with newer terms, AI often reaches its limits. This can lead to newly introduced terms or specific specialist terminology not being correctly recognized or used.

The quality of an AI model depends largely on the training data. For languages such as German, which have less online data in global comparison, this is a natural handicap.

Local solutions for global technology?

However, there are already solutions to this problem: Research institutes are collecting more diverse and high-quality German texts in order to train AI models more comprehensively. The involvement of native speakers is also increasingly being considered, and work is also being done on isolated models that not only speak “generic German”, but also understand dialects or focus on specialist languages, for example.

Synthetic data: Between efficiency and challenges

This is where synthetic data comes into play. They offer the opportunity to effectively close the gaps in the training data. Our forecast: within the next few months, synthetic data sets will become one of the most important topics in the world of AI.

What is synthetic data?

Synthetic data is artificially generated information that mimics real data. It is used to train AI models when real data is difficult to obtain or there are data protection concerns. Synthetic data is a double-edged sword: The use of synthetic data offers you a number of advantages. One advantage is the protection of privacy, as no real user data is used. They also allow you to simulate a wide range of scenarios, for example from rare dialects to specific expressions. They are also available in large quantities, making them a cost-effective solution. However, generating high-quality, realistic data is technically challenging. Poor quality data can lead to erroneous or biased AI models, which has a detrimental effect on results. Another risk is overgeneralization, which could miss real linguistic nuances and complexities. However, if used carefully, they have the potential to significantly improve the technology.

The Masakhane project and its global significance

One example of how community and new data sets can be used to improve language models is the Masakhane project. This project aims to develop machine translation models specifically for African languages. Masakhane focuses on capturing the diversity and nuances of local dialects and languages such as Yoruba, Swahili or Amharic. To do this, the project works closely with communities to collect real and diverse language data. These examples show that through collaboration and the use of advanced data collection methods, cultural inclusion and technological innovation can go hand in hand.

Ready for the future of AI?

The development of AI models that fully support the German language is a crucial step for digital transformation in Germany.

A fire of ideas between brickwork

2 Min.

Every year, the members of the COiDEALISTEN e. V. come together once a year for the “castle” meeting in Kirchberg an der Jagst.
In 2024, the castle was opened for this on
12. and
13 June “besieged and successfully conquered”.
In any case, the agenda was jam-packed for those present, including personal small talk about and among each other. Lunch together

Blowing up the bubbles

Once again, the special thing about the COiDEALISTEN events became clear from the conditions that were set: the bursting of the bubbles.
This is where engineers and designers, IT experts and business people come together to exchange ideas.
This is where investors and investors adopt proven market standards or set new trends.
Three new association members joined in the course of this event alone. View from the castle

Presentation and exchange of new ideas

The tried and tested procedure: New ideas are presented by association members or new invitees – with the intention of finding supporters for them or passing them on to proven hands.
This was followed by the now classic “running out ideas” parts one and two: small groups get together for an extended walk to discuss the ideas.
Finally, the event day was concluded with a joint feedback discussion.
What was particularly interesting this time were the decisions made in the areas of action – now defined more in terms of people. Participants of the COiDEALISTEN meeting 2024 having dinner together outdoors

Matomo web analytics from Bund-für-Naturschutz: Our event and the importance of web analytics

2 Min.

On July 25, 2024, our event on the topic of Matomo web analysis by Bund-für-Naturschutz – Travel department took place.
In addition to Google Analytics 4 is Matomo is often the first choice of companies for conversion optimization.
The application provides precise insights into user behavior – be it the acquisition of visitors, the engagement rate or e-commerce data.
Its greatest strength, however, is the recordings of how users actually behave on the website. The goal: to maximize performance.
Tools such as Matomo are important because they allow companies to see exactly what users do on the website, how they get to conversion and what stops them from doing so.
This is exactly what we looked at on Thursday (25.07.2024) together with Bund-für-Naturschutz.

Concrete insights for a better understanding

The event was the third event on the topic.
In parts 1 and 2, we explained the difference between Matomo and Google Analytics 4 to participants – the third event was intended to deepen the previous knowledge in practical terms.
Our customer Bund-für-Naturschutz (travel department) agreed to evaluate the website statistics.
The initial aim was to gain a better overview.
In other words, what users actually do on the website and how the insights can be used to increase engagement and the number of conversions.
For example, we took a closer look at the geography of website visitors, how long a user interacts with the website and how behavior develops in comparison to different time periods.
The feedback from participants: Positive!
This event contributed to a better understanding of Matomo in practice and what needs to be considered for the respective industry or that differences within the industries are generally taken into account, because different key figures are important for each company. Free or AI-generated music – which is better for my project?

4 Min.

If you only have a small budget for your projects and can’t spend a larger budget on self-composed music or licenses, you fortunately have a large selection of different options for obtaining suitable music these days.
The question“Should we use free or AI-generated music for our current project?” was recently posed by one of our customers.
Together with him, and based on our experience in the field of audio and AI, we were able to give him a well-founded recommendation.
We are happy to share our findings with you here to help you make your decision.

Free music using Pixabay as an example

Pixabay offers a variety of free music tracks and sound effects created by different artists.

Pro:

  • Created by real artists, therefore clear legal situation.
  • Over 90,000 free sound effects available.

Contra:

  • Long search times to find suitable music.
  • Different license conditions, not always suitable for commercial use.

AI-generated music using the example of Suno

Suno is an innovative AI music generator that creates unique pieces of music in a matter of seconds.

Pro:

  • Quickly create unique pieces of music.
  • Possibility to customize genre, style, mood and instruments.
  • Flexible and customizable for different projects.

Contra:

  • Commercial use requires a paid subscription.
  • Requires practice and precise input for optimum results.
  • Unclear legal situation with AI-generated content, as this can change constantly.

How does the generation of songs by AI actually work?

Let’s go through the example using the Suno platform: First we create an account, then you can describe the song you have in mind in the song description (left in the picture), similar to all AI programs: the more precisely described, the better.
Then 2 variants of songs are created for the description entered. Both instrumentals and vocals with lyrics can be generated, which doesn’t sound too bad in our opinion, especially if you need a song as background music, the creations are very suitable.

Conclusion

Both options offer advantages and challenges.
Free music from platforms like Pixabay can be a good choice for projects with clear licensing requirements and no pressing timelines.
AI-generated music from providers such as Suno, on the other hand, offers high flexibility and fast results, but requires a better understanding of the technology and may require additional costs for commercial usage rights.
It is important to always check the terms of use and license requirements to ensure that the music can be used legally.
Especially in the AI sector, the legal requirements and terms of use change quite frequently at the moment, so special attention should be paid to this.
Regardless of whether you choose free or AI-generated music, always consider the aspects of visibility, brand development and the requirements of your own project.

Further aspects

  • Digitization helper: AI-generated music can change your digital routine more efficiently.
  • Innovative strength: utilize the possibilities of AI helpersto realize creative and innovative projects.
  • Helping people to help themselves: Both options offer support in the implementation of creative ideas, be it through broad music libraries or through the adaptability of AI tools.

For the best results in your project, you should decide for yourself and choose the most suitable music option carefully, but also keep all legal aspects in mind. Curious to find out more? Google Analytics 4 vs. Matomo: Our event and the relevance of web analytics

2 Min.

How important is website tracking for lead generation?
If you look at the lead and conversion rates of most websites, this question becomes superfluous.

It’s easy to get started: create content for the website, place keywords and invest a lot of money in Google Ads – but the contact requests don’t materialize. This is where tools such as
Google Analytics and Matomo
come into play to determine the touchpoints of the target groups and collect important data. This includes which landing pages lead to conversions or how high the engagement rate is on the respective page.

The biggest challenge: The user-centricity of a website

Most companies have a clear goal in the digital world: to generate sales. But many fail, either because of low demand, strong competition or because they publish mediocre content. However, it becomes particularly tricky if the website generates a lot of reach and traffic, but no leads or new customers. SEO and paid advertisements do not help here, because these measures do not change the quality of the visitors.

In such cases, only analytics tools can help to evaluate user behavior more precisely and identify the construction sites on the website. With heat maps, companies can determine the exact touchpoints of the target group and data provides valuable insights into possible disruptions on the website.

Practical insights during the event

As part of our event “
Google Analytics 4 vs. Matomo
“, we demonstrated the possibilities of website tracking using a practical example from our customer “Bund Reisen”. After just a few glimpses, we gained key insights into website performance – including data such as engagement rate, dwell time and click-through rate.

On July 25, we will deepen these insights with more detailed insights into the customer journey and which touchpoints potential customers go through until they convert. The aim of the events will be to use tracking tools to optimize the sales potential of a website.

Follow-up report: “We want your sustainability”

2 Min.

On June 3, the online meeting “
We want your sustainability
” took place – a humorous allusion to the famous Uncle Sam “We want you” motif. The aim was to emphasize the importance of sustainability and focus on innovative, disruptive ideas. Sustainable concepts are often neglected in large companies, even though they are of immense importance. This meeting therefore focused on the promotion and dissemination of such ideas.

Presentation of the COiDEALISTEN Association

The COiDEALISTEN association(www.coidealisten.de) kicked off the event. This platform offers a solution for unused ideas in companies. The COiDEALISTS promote the exchange and implementation of innovative concepts that lie dormant in the drawers of many companies. This makes a significant contribution to promoting sustainability.

Concrete ideas for reparability and the circular economy

The COiDEALISTS then presented three specific ideas on the topic of reparability and the circular economy:

  • Repair Cafés: Promote Repair Cafés to empower communities to carry out their own repairs. This reduces waste and promotes repair skills.
  • Cooperation with manufacturers: Improving the reparability of products by providing repair instructions and spare parts to make products more durable and reduce the environmental impact.
  • Spare parts dealers and individuals: Improve the connectivity and availability of spare parts to make repairs more affordable and practical for the average consumer.

Conclusion

The online meeting “We want your sustainability” impressively demonstrated how important and creative sustainability can be. The introduction of the COiDEALISTEN association and the presentation of concrete, practicable ideas made it clear that everyone can make a contribution to sustainable development. The concepts presented offer a promising outlook for a future in which sustainability is a living reality.

AI as a game changer in team organization

2 Min.

AI is not only a valuable helper when it comes to automatically customizing texts, illustrations or videos: It can also be a real game changer in (sales) teamwork, especially in team organization. This applies both to any media support and to the use of specific evaluation tools, for example when it comes to drawing up and weighing up success rates or assessing the quality of telephone conversations and providing possible suggestions for improvement.

Optimal selection of AI tools for your team

The selection of the various AI tools always depends on the respective team line-up. Where are the particular strengths of a team, where are general weaknesses hidden? Where can the use of which tools save time, relieve the group of work tasks that nobody wants to do or has time for, or, for example, take over the entire team coordination for an event?

Efficient use of Microsoft Teams and OpenAI tools

Whether a – now AI-enhanced – Microsoft Teams or one of the numerous OpenAI tools: It is important to find the optimal configuration and coordination in which the use of AI can pay off as optimally as possible.

AI for writing texts: Try it – check it – decide!

2 Min.

There is still a big question mark over the applicability of artificial intelligence in text creation and editing – and with good reason. The differences, both in terms of applications and users, are considerable. In contrast, the performance of AI text software such as
ChatGPT
achieves.

In order to find out to what extent AI can support the writing of texts, the only really useful decision-making aid is to carry out a series of tests with regard to the use of different media formats.

  • Can AI serve as a valuable research tool for this?
  • Is it possibly useful as a creative stimulus, as an inspirational aid?
  • Does it manage to make text creation easier by providing structural or formulation guidelines?
  • Or is it now even capable of formulating entire texts or blocks of text that then only need to be checked for consistency of content?

Lots of questions to which we can always provide valid answers in close cooperation with our customers and partners – as the result of a joint workshop or a series of tests that we can offer you for different occasions or different formats.

As a result, you know exactly what you’re getting into with the text AI!
