Capital Meets Innovation: When Hiking Opens Up New Paths

Sometimes the best ideas don’t come in the conference room, but on the go. That was exactly the idea behind a group hiking day organized by Hilmar Platz, Jozo Legatar and Matthias Brinkmann in Kipfenberg. The three have long been united by a common goal: How can investors and exciting innovations be better connected? Together, they have more than 70 years of experience, a well-established network of investors, and strong connections to companies, projects, and people with innovative ideas. This expertise will be pooled even more effectively in the future.

Out of the conference room, into your hiking boots

To discuss the next steps, they deliberately chose not to meet at the conference table this time. Instead, the three of them set out from Kipfenberg at 9 a.m.—with no set route and no rigid agenda. They simply started walking, talked to each other, and saw where the path would take them.

A nice parallel to business life quickly became apparent: Not every single step has to be set in stone from the very beginning. Sometimes the right path only becomes clear as you go along. And when you look at the map, you suddenly realize where you’ve actually ended up and how far you’ve already come. The hike provided the perfect setting for exactly that. In addition to business ideas and concrete plans for the future, there was plenty of room for personal conversations. After all, good collaboration isn’t built solely on skills and contacts, but above all on trust.

Capital meets innovation

These discussions are now set to lead to something more. Under the motto “Capital Meets Innovation,” Hilmar, Jozo, and Matthias aim to bring their diverse expertise and networks together. On one side are investors looking for interesting innovations, companies, and investment opportunities. On the other hand, there are innovative ideas and companies that need capital, contacts, or experienced partners to take their next steps.

The goal is to create a stronger connection right between these two worlds.

After about nine hours, we headed back home—with tired legs, lots of conversations, and, above all, new plans in tow. Maybe this will even turn into a format of its own: Innovation Hiking—simply setting out together, exchanging ideas, and discovering new paths. When digitalization, AI, exciting minds and good conversations come together, then you can be pretty sure that the Nuremberg Digital Festival. And when the Rabbit Hole Group makes its way together, an exciting event quickly becomes a must-attend event. We at 2be die markenmacher are delighted to be part of the festival together with our partners as the Rabbit Hole Group – with two presentations, lots of discussions and topics that could hardly be more topical.

And the best thing first: the Nuremberg Digital Festival is free, open to everyone and definitely worth a visit. Anyone interested in digitalization, future topics, AI or simply exciting people and new perspectives should not miss it.

Matthias and Anton kick things off by addressing a topic that is becoming increasingly relevant: digital independence.

The presentation will focus on perspectives, challenges and pragmatic approaches for companies that want to remain digitally agile.

Education & AI – More than just chatGPT in the classroom

Antonia and Jozo will take over immediately afterwards. Their joint presentation on “Education & AI” will focus on how artificial intelligence can be used sensibly in educational processes – in a practical, understandable way and without unnecessary buzzword bingo.
Because, as we all know, there is still a pretty exciting middle ground between blind AI hype and skeptical wait-and-see.

And in between? Time for real conversations. Not every good impulse happens on a stage. Between the presentations, there is deliberately enough time for chatting, networking, asking questions and exchanging ideas. After all, that’s what makes such events special: not just taking away input, but meeting people, hearing perspectives and perhaps even taking home new ideas or partnerships.

Lead Generation at RETTmobil: 2be on the Job for Ergo-Tec Medical

Some appointments start out very relaxed. And then there are appointments like the RETTmobil. Lots of traffic, full roads, lots of hustle and bustle – the journey there was definitely a tough one. But: we arrived, got our bearings, took a deep breath – and were right in the thick of things.

For Matthias, the assignment at the RETTmobil was even a bit of a home game. As a native of Fulda, he was of course very familiar with the region. The site itself was not unfamiliar territory either: the former airfield and military site has its very own character with its special atmosphere. And when everything takes place between huge exhibition tents inside and out, the whole thing takes on a very special exhibition vibe. Our mission? To actively make contacts for Ergo-Tec Medical, hold talks and tap into new potential for lead generation.

Who is Ergo-Tec?

Ergo-Tec Medical develops sophisticated solutions for everyday medical and ergonomic work. The focus is on products that make workstations more functional, efficient and user-friendly – especially where reliability and ergonomics are crucial. These solutions are aimed at exactly the right target group, particularly in the field of emergency services, medical facilities and specialized areas of application.

Networking instead of just exhibition stand brochures

While others strolled past the stand, Matthias had to actively engage in conversation, establish contacts, understand needs and see where real points of contact could be created.

And that is exactly what makes such assignments so exciting: from interesting technical discussions and spontaneous encounters to concrete exchange opportunities, everything was there. Particularly exciting: in addition to many national contacts, international connections were also made. Exactly the mix that makes a trade fair like RETTmobil so valuable.

And yes – between all the conversations, you shouldn’t forget the little highlights: Burgers from the grill right on the premises? Definitely a plus point.

For us, lead generation is not just about collecting business cards. It’s about getting to know the right people, having honest conversations and recognizing opportunities early on. Especially for companies like Ergo-Tec, which offer specialized solutions for a clearly defined target group, trade fairs like RETTmobil are a strong platform. January 19, 2026 had long been circled in red for us – no wonder, after all, we were invited by the VR Bank to the Nuremberg Entrepreneur Congress & New Year’s Reception invited. An event that has been one of the most important formats for SMEs, innovation and regional economic power for years and traditionally brings together hundreds of decision-makers at NürnbergMesse.

And we can say: it was worth it.
In addition to many new contacts and some that we refreshed, there were plenty of inspiring perspectives directly from the stage. The congress is known for combining practical relevance with strategic foresight. The presentations and discussions provided exactly this mixture of “Ah, that’s right, you can do it that way” moments and tangible learnings.

The range of topics was broad: Company valuation, succession processes, innovation culture, economic resilience in SMEs – always with an eye on how to set up companies for the future in times of major change.

Fun fact about the trade fair: For years, the Nuremberg Business Congress has been a strategic start to the year where representatives from business, industry, politics and associations come together to exchange ideas. It is traditionally complemented by the New Year’s Reception, which deliberately focuses on networking.

“Showing strength in weak times” – a motto that remains

We were particularly impressed by the clear and honest contributions from Bernd Krebs on corporate culture and Josef Pickel on succession planning. Their common tenor: show courage when things get difficult – and keep your composure when uncertainty characterizes the market. An approach that not only suits us, but also the many medium-sized companies we work with on a daily basis.

Our conclusion

A strong start to a strong year. One thing is clear to us: 2026 will be a year full of creativity, joint projects and bold decisions.

Our recent meeting brought together partners, current Odoo users and potential customers to discuss the latest version of Odoo,
Odoo 17
in depth. This version stands out in particular thanks to innovations in the field of artificial intelligence and enhanced app functions that have the potential to fundamentally transform the sales sector. Despite Odoo’s reputation as a comprehensive open source ERP system, our meeting focused primarily on customer relationship management (CRM) and the optimization of sales campaigns.

 gave an impressive introduction to the system functionalities, while
Matthias Brinkmann
 shared his practical sales experience. The discussion was moderated by two participants from
Manatec
 who work as project managers and contributed valuable insights from their direct application experience. Experienced customers also commented on the best ways to use the system in their companies.

Networking was a key element of our meeting. In this context, we have decided to set up an Odoo User Group to share best practices, programming knowledge and information about the best apps. Another event is already being planned, this time possibly focusing on the Odoo 17 project app to deepen our knowledge and share practical experiences.
